Abstract:A metaphor is a literary figure of speech that describes a subject by asserting that it is,on some point of comparison,the same as another otherwise unrelated object.It is often used in poems especially the modern and contemporary ones.There is a strong connection between poem and lyric; therefore there is also frequent usage of metaphor in lyrics worthy of research.However,nursery rhymes targeting children use metaphor with different characteristics from songs for adults.This article mainly discuss the types and characteristics of the metaphors used in nursery rhymes.
